RESUMO

Facial soft-tissue injuries are the most common injuries presenting to surgical causality reception. The present study aimed to provide a preliminary data base about the distribution, type, pattern and etiology of facial soft tissue injuries. In a prospective clinical study all patients with facial injury were enrolled in this study, over a ten months period [from 1[st] October 2010- 1[st] July 2011], who attended Surgical Casualty Reception in Rojh-halat Emergency Hospital. A questionnaire was used to collect patients' database and relevant information. The wound configuration was divided as laceration, abrasion and contusion as well as the site of facial soft tissue injuries were recorded using the modified MCFONTZL system. A total of 168 patients with facial soft tissue injuries were received and managed at Surgical Casualty Reception in Rojh-halat Emergency Hospital. The age of the patients were ranged from 1-80 years old. Most of the patients were within the age range of 1-10. Male patients constitute 62.5% of the cases. The most common etiology of facial soft tissue injury was falls. Regarding type of the injury, laceration was the most common type. The lips and chin region were mostly involved. Fall is the most common cause of facial injury. Lower third of the face is mostly involved. road traffic legislations have a role in decreasing road traffic accidents

RESUMO

This study aimed to determine the prevalence, size, shape and location of tori in partially and completely edentulous patients attending the College of Dentistry/ Hawler Medical University from 2009-2011. In a retrospective study four hundred and fifty patients case file from Erbil city were examined for the presence of oral tori in prosthodontic department, College of Dentistry, Hawler Medical University. The size, shape and location of tori were recorded and related with the age and sex of patients. The overall prevalence of tori was 14.2% [64 cases]. The prevalence of torus palatinus was 60.9% [39/64], while that of torus mandibularis was significantly lesser 23.5% [15/64].Both types of tori were associated with each other in 15.62% of cases [10/64]. There was no statistically significant difference in the prevalence of tori between males and females. There was a significant relationship between the presence of mandibular and palatal tori

RESUMO

This study was designed to evaluate the clinical status of implants placed immediately in lifted maxillary sinus using Resorbable Tissue Replacement [R.T.R.] cone bone substitutes. Twenty implants were placed in twenty patients in the period between Jan. 2006 and Sept. 2010. Lateral approach, open window method for sinus lift with placement of Resorbable Tissue Replacement Cone bone substitutes were carried out. A 4-6 mm of the bone level was required in the alveolar ridge for primary stability, with sufficient interarch space for the prosthesis. All implants were placed in upper molar region simultaneously with sinus lift procedure in conjunction with Tissue Replacement Cone bone substitutes. The implant survival was defined when the prosthesis had been delivered and followed for two years without infection, pain, and mobility after loading. Twenty patients, 13 males and 7 females, with an average age of 41 years old were participated in this study. A total of twenty implants were followed up for two years. Eighteen patients with eighteen implants [90.0%] showed no signs of sinusitis or other complications and the periimplant health judged to be good with a periimplant sulcus depth of 2-3mm. Two implants [10%] showed mobility before loading. A good survival rate was observed in implants placed immediately in lifted maxillary sinus using Resorbable Tissue Replacement [R.T.R.] cone bone substitutes

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to assess radiographically the angulations and depth of impacted mandibular third molars. In a retrospective study 163 impacted mandibular third molars of 100 patients were examined on orthopantomograms [OPT] in the College of Dentistry/ Hawler Medical University during 2008. From these orthopantomograms the angulations [mesioangular, distoangular, vertical, and horizontal] and the depth [types A, B, and C] of the impacted mandibular third molars were recorded. The frequencies of unilateral and bilateral impaction were also recorded. The average age of the patients was 26.5 + 5 ranging from 20-40 years with a median of 25 years. Fifty eight [58%] of the cases were female and 42 [42%] were male. The frequency of mesioangular, distoangular, vertical and horizontal impactions were 73 [44.8%], 37 [22.6%], 28 [17.2%], and 25[15.4%] successively. The depths of the impactions were 45 [27.6%] depth A, 74 [45.4%] depth B, and 44 [27%] depth C. The frequency of unilateral impaction was 26 [26%] and that of bilateral impaction was 74 [74%]. Impacted mandibular third molars are more common in female. Mesioangular impaction is more common followed by distoangular. Depth B most common and most of the patients have bilateral impaction
